I think that there can be several different pros and cons between these three methods. I think that a professional profile is something that can be created and very elegant towards clients. I feel like a professional webpage helps catch a potential clients eye. A personal webpage can save you several dollars and can be just as nice as a professional one. Sometimes having a personal webpage people tend to leave a lot of information out. LinkedIn I feel like is able to give you the professional look while you maintain exactly what you want on its webpage. These three methods come with a few cons one maybe trying to expose their pages. Professional webpages I think have better access than a personal page. I think that LinkedIn is the same process, you need to be able to provide a way to get your name out there.I created a survey on Boston sports using SurveyMonkey. Click on the link below to access the survey.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/5QLYVDZ I think there are several different things that can expand your networking strategies to make yourself successful. I believe that keeping in contact with people that you already know is the most important and beneficial strategy when networking. I have heard it plenty of times that landing a good job is 50% who you are and 50% who you know. By communicating with the people around you there may be a better chance of receiving a good recommendation for a new position. Another important strategy is to be proactive in meeting new people. Do not be afraid to put yourself out there and interact with others because you never know what their connections may be. Finally, use the new technology that is around us. There are so many different websites that can be useful when networking. Between sites like LinkedIn or even job search sites like Monster, there are many great tools around us that can lead to endless possibilities in the professional world.
When I first read this instantly Wikipedia came to my mind. I have not heard the term “wiki” before. After reading the articles, wiki seems like a great idea. It allows people to create and edit the content of a web page by multiple people. Wiki is beneficial in education because it allows students working on group projects or papers to collaborate without meeting. Each student would be allowed to access and edit any of the material that is on there. I personally have never used this, but now knowing this I really hope to use this in the future.
Facebook and LinkedIn are very different. Facebook is more of a personal web page, where you can share pictures and events that are currently happening in your life. I feel as though it is something fun rather than professional. As for LinkedIn I think that it is completely a professional website. I would never think to leave pictures or post comments about what I maybe doing this weekend. LinkedIn is a great way to expose yourself, expand your business, join groups and share your expertise. I think that it is good exposure if you’re looking for a job and for those who are looking to hire others. I have been a member of Facebook since college and have never thought of it as professional just for fun. But since starting this class I look at it slightly differently. When we had to create a fan page I never thought of doing something like that. But for my soccer team is can be very beneficial and all of my players are members. I have not been a member of LinkedIn for long, but I can see myself using it down the line someday.
There are several different things you can do to enhance your personal web presence. I believe that creating the PWP should focus on what the individual does best and to express it. Things that should be included are: about me, blog, sample work, pictures and your philosophy. It is important to give your viewer a little background about your life, education, work history, and affiliations which should be included in the about me section. I think the blog can be a place where you express past experiences, and more insight on the type of person you are. The philosophy should explain your objectives, and how you intend on meeting them. Sample work would be giving your viewer and insight of your best work, but not showing them everything just yet. You want to keep their attention and to be curious of what else you are capable of. I think that pictures are important and say a lot about a person. Showing your work in a resume is one thing but actually showing your viewer how you do it in a picture grabs their attention even more.
An application exists today for just about anything you can imagine. I have several on my phone already for banking, music, fitness and just personal fun. But after reading through all the material and slideshow I have found a few that caught my attention. One in particular, wishing I knew about this earlier is Remind 101. This is an application where the teacher can be in contact with parents and students but without actually giving out their own phone number. Today, everyone has a phone and typically text I thought this was a great idea. I am going to start using this one! Another one that caught my eye is DropBox, which I have currently downloaded as well. DropBox allows you to save and share files to any computer and even cell phone devices. I think that both of these applications can be very beneficial to education.
After reading the top 100 tools for learning in 2013 I was quite surprised of how many tools I already use. I couldn’t believe that out of the top 10 I had used five different learning tools. But I do have to say out of the 100 learning tools I have personally only used 20 of them, which makes me feel out of the technology loop. As I went through the list a few of them caught my eye and I hope to use them in the future. I thought that Google docs was interesting, it’s a free web-based word processor where you can also store documents. One that I can definitely can use is Dropbox, I had no idea something like this even existed. I really like this because sometimes I store things on my work computer and when I am home cannot access anything. This list has helped me explore several different learning tools that can help me with this class and help with work too.
